Consistent with that premise, it is important to note that compared to 2013 the changes experienced in the individual crime categories were quite mixed. While it is important to identify total offense and workload trends, it is equally beneficial to assess the component parts of those trends. Nevertheless, the service call workload last year remained two percent higher than the five-year average. The Department s service call workload, which consists of non-criminal events such as disturbances, suspicious persons, alarms, traffic crashes and traffic services, declined slightly last year (-2%). The Skokie Police Department remains committed to excellence. It is my sincere hope that these men remain a part of the Skokie Police Department family for many years to come. The Department also hired three new civilian employees last year: Community Service Officers Andrew Belanger, Viktor Gadjanski and Ameer Khan. Six new Police Officers were appointed to the Department during 2014: Officers Giovanni De La Vega, Shane Long, Alexander Sampra, Daniel Simons, John Veenhuis and Bradley Vos. Their dedication and commitment to the Department and the residents of Skokie will be missed. Each of these individuals have been integral members of the Skokie Police Department family. During his 26 years of service, Officer Czajka worked in the Patrol Division, was assigned as the Old Orchard Officer for four years, and served as the School Resource Officer at Niles North High School since Officer Senese retired after 23 years with the Department, working in both the Patrol and Investigations Divisions. Sergeant Maher served as a Sergeant in both the Investigations and Patrol Divisions during his career. Sergeant Michael Healy retired after 30 years of dedicated service, and Sergeant Maher retired with 39 years on the job. ![]() ![]() ![]() Deputy Chief Lopez began his career with the Department in 1981, was promoted to Sergeant in 1998 and became a Commander in He was appointed to Deputy Chief during 2011, where he served until his retirement. Calendar year 2014 was no exception, as evidenced by the retirement of Deputy Chief Alfredo Lopez, Sergeant Michael Healy, Sergeant Michael Maher, and Officers Frank Czajka and Nicholas Senese. Significant personnel changes occur every year within the Police Department. Decreases were realized in the categories of robbery, burglary, theft, burglary/theft to motor vehicles, and motor vehicle theft.
